Drs. Abria Magee and Maura Pereira De Leon presented during the 2019 EMPOWER Women's Leadership Conference hosted by the University of Houston Women and Gender Resource Center and Center for Student Involvement.
Pereira spoke about the effects of stereotypes in Hispanic women's leadership experience in the United States. Her session looked at social stereotypes and the impact that these stereotypes in their work experience. The session focused on identifying strategies to create a more inclusive work environment and enhance opportunities for success of Latino women in the American workforce.
Magee presented women's leadership by the numbers. The discussion revolved around why women in the U.S. are not being represented in leadership positions and yet hold approximately 52 percent of all professional-level jobs.
